Great Neck Ophthalmology Office
At Long Island Ophthalmic Concepts, we are dedicated to providing you with exceptional ophthalmic care. Our highly qualified staff, well-trained to work with all ages, is focused on meeting all of your eye care health needs. Established over 30 years ago, we are an integral part of the community with a first-rate reputation. In addition to our Great Neck office, we have offices in Huntington and Bellmore. The latter is the hub of our administrative and surgical services, where all of our surgical and billing matters are handled.
Our Capable, Caring Staff
Our chief ophthalmologist, Dr. George Tung, is known for his extensive experience and advanced technical skills as well as for his compassion. The Doctors of Optometry (O.D.) in our practice — Dr. Christine Tam, Dr. Howard Fishman, and Dr. Frank Fong, are all highly talented and understanding of our patients’ questions and concerns. All of our doctors rotate among our three office venues. Beyond the outstanding ophthalmic care our professionals provide, all three of our offices are managed by knowledgeable, efficient staff members who help to maintain a welcoming atmosphere.
Our Doctors’ Specialties
Each of our doctors has areas of expertise to better serve our patients. Dr. Tung is a highly qualified surgeon who performs laser procedures once a month in our Bellmore office and cataract surgeries and iStent® procedures in Northwell Syosset (formerly North Shore Hospital). Dr. Tam specializes in contact lenses; Dr. Fishman specializes in contacts, low vision refraction, low vision glasses, and Prokera®, a state-of-the-art method of using stem cells to repair the cornea. Dr. Fong focuses on vision training.

Frequently Asked Questions
It is important that you feel at ease with us even before you enter our doors. To that end, we want to give you the answers to questions patients frequently ask:
How long will my visit take?
You can expect to be in our office for approximately 45 to 90 minutes, depending on whether your eyes have to be dilated.
What is dilation?
We administer eye drops to expand your iris. This enables the doctor to perform a complete visual examination, checking the health behind your eyes and examining your optic nerve and retina.
How long does dilation take? Will it affect my vision?
Once the drops are administered, it will usually take between 15 and 20 minutes for your eyes to dilate. Dark eyes take longer to dilate than light ones. The dilation is not painful, but it will make your eyes more sensitive to light and blur your vision for 1 to 2 hours. For this reason, you should bring sunglasses with you to the appointment and we recommend that you have someone with you to drive you home.
What is Refraction?
Refraction is the procedure that determines what prescription you need for corrective lenses so that your vision will be optimal. A device known as a phoropter or a refractor is used during diagnosis.
What is iStent®
iStent® is an implant inserted during cataract surgery that can help glaucoma patients maintain normal intraocular pressure after the operation.
Will my eye exam be covered by my insurance?
At Long Island Ophthalmic Concepts we perform medical, rather than “routine” eye exams and will submit forms to your medical insurance carrier only. We do not accept vision plans.
At Long Island Ophthalmic Concepts, we are committed to providing you with the exceptional patient care you deserve. Our staff works as a team to ensure that our patients are comfortable as they receive the very best in comprehensive ophthalmic care.
